Day 26: Staying Cyber-Safe while Distance Learning
Children these days are learning to navigate tablets at a very young age. It may be cute to see a 21-month old swiping away for her favorite nursery rhyme. It’s a lot scarier when the child is six, and knows how to read, type, and jump from one YouTube channel to the next.
When I received an unexpected call from an online puppy shop asking me about my chihuahua inquiry, I knew I had to impose tighter controls on my eldest child’s screen time. As busy parents, it is all too easy to leave children up to their own devices (no pun intended), especially when they’re supposed to be learning remotely. Cyber-oversight is an essential aspect of our parental duties during this pandemic, along with working from home or searching for work, homeschooling, care-giving, child rearing, etc.
