Amending Your Child's Records
Your school district is responsible for maintaing accurate education records on your child. You have the right to request that your district amend information contained within your child’s record if that information is inaccurate, misleading, or otherwise violative of your child’s rights.
If your school district denies your request, you have the opportunity for a hearing. Although you’re not entitled to an impartial hearing officer, the hearing must be conducted by an individual who does not have a direct intrest in the outcome of the hearing. You can present relevant evidence and may be assisted or represented by an attorney.
Having accurate records is particularly important if you’re searching for a new school or program of services for your child. You’ll want to make sure that your child is not denied admission due to an improper statement contained within your child’s educational history.
