Gifted Education: Acceleration vs. Enrichment

In an article dated April 19, 2021 by the Hechinger Report (https://hechingerreport.org/proof-points-gifted-programs-provide-little-to-no-academic-boost-new-study-says/), the author highlights the varying interpretations of gifted education across the country. In some districts, gifted education means the teaching of advanced material. In other districts, it only means access to additional enrichment activities.

At MSR Legal, we support customized education. For twice exceptional children, a preferred education might offer opportunities for advanced learning, social enrichment, leadership, independent living skill building, self-advocacy, and creativity. These learning opportunities can be supported by an Individualized Education Program (“IEP”); a special needs private school with individualized programming; a Section 504 Accommodations Plan; or an Individualized Education Services Program (“IESP”) for students parentally placed in private school.

Through MSR Legal’s consulting practice, I provide insight to parents on the selection or development of the right educational program— one that fits your child’s complex learning profile.
