Chronic Absenteeism & Remote Learning
The New York State Education Department (NYSED) sought and received a waiver from the U.S. Department of Education from using 2020-2021 data for accountability in the areas of academic progress; student growth; English Language Proficiency; chronic absenteeism; graduation rates; and college, career, and civic readiness. See http://www.nysed.gov/memo/accountability/united-states-department-education-usde-waiver-every-student-succeeds-act-essa for more information. In applying for this waiver, NYSED argued that its 2020-2021 data would be distorted by the disparities across New York State in learning modality and device/internet connectivity access.
