Day 55: Distance Learning versus eLearning

My informal survey of crisis schooling practices during this pandemic has revealed variations in the type of instruction delivered across schools and districts. Some children are receiving live, virtual instruction and others are not. There’s also considerable variation in the frequency and amount of live instruction available.

It appears that the main difference between distance learning and eLearning is that distance learning involves online assignments completed at home with virtual teacher check-ins. Distance learning may allow students to complete work at their own pace, however, it is more reliant on the parent to act as the stand-in teacher. On the other hand, eLearning provides more opportunity for live, virtual interaction with the teacher and classmates, especially through synchronous classes.

During this time, it is important to document the frequency and amount of direct, specialized instruction that your child is receiving pursuant to his or her IEP. If you have questions about whether your child is eligible for compensatory education as a result of the school closures, book a virtual consultation on my website, https://www.MSRLegal.ORG/Book-Your-Consultation. Also, follow @MSRLegalConsulting on Instagram as I post about the changing landscape of special education in the wake of Covid-19.

Have a great week,

Oroma
