Day 69: The Use of Prompts in Special Education

Prompting is an instructional tool that you may see referenced in your child’s Individualized Education Program (“IEP”). Typically-developing children can usually be guided by natural cues in their environment. A child with special needs, however, might require more specific support in order to participate in activities and gain developmental skills. There are verbal prompts, visual prompts, and physical prompts to help children stay engaged in classroom activities and therapy sessions. When reviewing your child’s IEP, it’s important to think about the level of support that your child needs to remain engaged during the school day. Does the IEP provide a sufficient level of support? Do you think your child needs a smaller classroom or the assistance of an aide/paraprofessional?

For a review of your child’s IEP and evaluations, book a virtual consultation on my website, https://www.MSRLegal.ORG/Book-Your-Consultation . Follow @MSRLegalConsulting on Instagram where I post about the evolving landscape of special education in the wake of Covid-19.

Have a safe and healthy weekend,
