Day 9: Special Education for Medically Fragile Students

By now, you probably know someone who has fallen sick with Covid-19, as the number of affected persons continues to rise. Today, I reflected on the parents of children considered ‘medically fragile’, and how worried they must be in keeping themselves and their children safe.

Medically fragile students are entitled to an appropriate special education tailored to meet their unique needs. Below is just a small sampling of special education services available:

  1. One-to-one health paraprofessionals

  2. Toileting paraprofessionals

  3. Diaper changing equipment, including a changing table and supplies

  4. School nursing services

  5. Porter/specialized transportation assistant services

  6. Home and hospital instruction

If you’re curious about the services your child should be receiving at home during this pandemic, book a consultation on my website: https://www.msrlegal.org/book-your-consultation.  Virtual consultations are available across a variety of digital platforms, including Skype, Zoom, Facebook video chat, Google Meet, and Google Duo video calling. We will discuss how your child’s school-based services translate into the home environment to ensure continued access to an appropriate education.

Be well, and don’t forget to follow @msrlegalconsulting on Instagram for the latest updates.
